Top 6 Pregnancy Fears

Posted on December 1, 2022December 16, 2022 by Dr. Humaira Sikander

No doubt, having a pregnancy is a happy and pleasant feeling. Along with happiness, there must be some pregnancy fears. It’s normal to worry a little bit because the whole experience is new and terrifyingly unpredictable because it is not easy and comfortable for all women. The physical changes an expectant mother experiences are important and have a wide range of effects on her life. It’s entirely natural to feel a little anxious while pregnant. Many expectant mothers worry too much about the wrong things and don’t pay enough attention to things that could actually be harmful to their pregnancy and unborn child.

Table of Contents

  • A time of stress
  • Miscarriage is one of the common pregnancy fears
  • I eat and drink the wrong things that may harm my baby
  • Fear of complications like preeclampsia or gestational
  • Labor will be tough and painful
  • Fear of emergency c-section

A time of stress

During pregnancy, it’s natural to have stress and anxiety, because it is a time of physical, hormonal, and emotional changes. Women having pregnancy first time experience more pregnancy fears. Expectant mothers should use relaxation techniques or engage in stress-relieving hobbies to lessen worry. It’s crucial to concentrate your energy on the things you can influence and let go of the rest.

Miscarriage is one of the common pregnancy fears

Most women fear that pregnancy is not going well and they may lose their baby. Miscarriages can indeed happen but at the same time, it is important to keep in mind that most pregnancies result in the birth of healthy babies, and only 20 to 25% end in miscarriages.

The majority of miscarriages occur in the first few weeks of pregnancy when most women are unaware that they are expecting. Contact your doctor as soon as you know your pregnancy and following the routine suggested by the doctor can prevent the risk of miscarriage.

I eat and drink the wrong things that may harm my baby

The majority of pregnant women experience a lot of pressure over what to eat and drink. They find it difficult to make a decision. The expecting believe that they are consuming unhealthy drinks and food that could harm their unborn child.

Pregnancy dos and don’ts can be very confusing, particularly when it comes to what to consume. All of a sudden, you find yourself anxiously glancing through menus at restaurants and grocery stores. Is this fish’s mercury level too high? Should I just switch to decaf coffee or can I drink a lot of coffee? Is cheese that has been warmed always safe? While some recommendations for the prenatal diet are unambiguous, others are, and all of this information—and occasionally conflicting data—really relies on who you ask.

Of course, it’s important to abide by the recommendations for what to eat and drink while pregnant. Still, it’s best to stay away from harmful items like alcohol, unpasteurized milk and cheese, raw meat, undercooked seafood, and others.

Fear of complications like preeclampsia or gestational

Because of changes in the body, many complications like preeclampsia or gestational are also pregnancy fears.

Labor will be tough and painful

As the labor date gets closer, all pregnant women experience some anxiety. Many women have a fear of childbirth, while about 20% of women admit to being scared of giving birth. Women commonly experience anxiety during their first pregnancies due to a fear of the unknown and of handing over control. Some women even think that having a cesarean section would be preferable since they would feel like they had more control over the birth.

Most women who are afraid to give birth worry that the agony of labor will be too much for them to handle. They fear allowing their feelings to spiral out of control. Traumatic birth stories that people have heard from friends or family members, as well as dramatic television depictions, might significantly increase fear. If labor discomfort is something you are particularly concerned about, you should sit down and relax. You can do a number of things right now to get the discomfort under control. Attending delivery classes and reading up on dealing with pain during childbirth techniques will help.

Fear of emergency c-section

One of the most significant occasions in a woman’s life is childbirth. Birth marks the significance of parenting and has profound physical and emotional effects. Almost 6 to 10 percent of all pregnant mothers have a strong phobia of giving birth. This anxiety might predominant throughout pregnancy. Which could make childbirth more difficult and prolonged. After the c-section, all women face many difficulties in their routine life. C-section fear is one of the most dreadful pregnancy fears.
