Your soft, caring touch is one of the most necessary experiences for your baby’s healthy growth. These types of baby massages will promote their joyful and healthy development and will provide you and your baby with quality time to bond.
You can start massaging your newborn once the first few weeks have passed after birth. But be sure to pay attention to your baby’s mood. When you’re ready to massage your infant, they should be attentive, relaxed, and tranquil.
Here are some types of baby massages that I’ll discuss with you:
1. Digestion Massage
The majority of babies experience digestive problems, digestion massage will really help your baby to resolve digestion problems like excessive gas, colic, stomach pain, etc. Massage your child in a warm, peaceful environment, by making eye contact lie them on their back on a nice towel.
Carefully rub your infant’s belly in a clockwise motion. Make circles that get progressively smaller as you approach the navel. Since the digestive system travels counterclockwise, you can be confident you’re assisting the wind in moving in the proper direction. If you’d like, you can massage your infant with oil, but be sure it’s suitable for your baby’s skin.
2. Baby Hand and Feet Massage
Feet Massage:
For a number of ailments, rubbing your baby’s feet is truly beneficial. According to experts in reflexology particular areas on the feet can be gently massaged to influence other regions of the body because they are thought to be related to the rest of the body. For instance, massaging your baby’s toes can relieve head and toothaches.
Hold one foot while you slowly twist it several times in each direction and massage the foot’s ankle. Then, massage the child’s foot from wrist to toe, switching to the other leg as you go. Massage the baby’s sole by using your thumb to rub the bottom of each leg in circular motions.
Hand Massage:
Your infant will feel safe and enjoy touch if you massage his/her hands. It can also be applied if your child requires a break from the massage. Gently lift one of your infant’s arms from your armpit to your wrists while holding it in place. After that, take hold of his hand and slowly rotate his wrist a few times in any direction. For a second hand, repeat this motion. So, while massaging your baby’s palm, make circular motions with each hand’s floor while keeping your thumbs pointing downward.
3. Neck Massage
One type of baby massage is a neck massage. Baby’s neck muscles take some time to develop, so you should support his/her neck by putting your hand below the head, while you uplift your baby.
To start the massage of your infant’s neck, with one hand, support your baby’s head and upper torso. Put your first two fingers on one side of his/her neck and the thumb of your other hand there. Next, gently touch your baby’s neck in a circular motion with your fingertips. Several times, repeat these circles.
4. Massage for Good Sleep
Let’s discuss how a little massage routine might genuinely improve your baby’s sleep. According to research, regular massages for your baby may promote deeper nighttime sleep and increased daytime activity. The National Sleep Foundation claims that massage promotes the relaxation of the body and mind.
5. Baby Massage for Chest
One type of baby massage is the chest massage. Chest massage will help your baby’s chest issues like coughing, breathing, or cold. A chest massage can enhance breathing patterns and lung health in healthy newborns as well.
Put both hands on your infant’s chest and rub them together from sternum to shoulders. Trace a heart form starting at the chest by lifting both hands to the shoulders, lowering them down, then bringing them back together. Then, your baby’s hip should be stroked on one side, up and over the other shoulder, and then back down to the hip.
6. Massage of Baby’s Back
Baby’s back massage is also very beneficial for their fitness. The baby should be placed on his/her abdomen. Make little circles with your fingertips, on the sides of his/her spine, from the neck to the hips. Repeat this action a few times.
